Oil and watercolor on paper
30.7×23.5cm
Born from a free and child-like imagination, Paul
Klee's art is colorful and poetic. As this work
in both watercolor and oil indicates, Klee also
explored technique with originality and innovation.
This female nude with its slightly contorted pose
is reminiscent of the puppet theater that Klee loved
so much. The scratchy lines of black oil paint that
are Klee's own technique lend expression to the
abbreviated shapes. Under the wide-brimmed hat,
the large and exaggerated blue eyes and red lips
give the girl a unique appeal.
